Lightning Ridge Hall

Lightning Ridge Hall, Visit by NSW Governor Sir Phillip Game 1930

Lightning Ridge Hall, Visit by NSW Governor Sir Phillip Game 1934These photos are dated 1934 when Lord & Lady Game came to the district to re-open the Walgett Show (it had closed 1914 for WWI). Because they were great supporters of the Bush Nurse Association (BNA), they Games were invited to the Ridge where Lady and her daughter slept on the BNA verandah overnight (we have photos of them taken by the nurse). Who knows where the Lord slept!! They had a big night at the Imperial Hall that was built in 1914 across from the Imperial Hotel. It blew down in the 1956 mini-cyclone that whipped up Opal Street. The Games were taken to Hart & Spicer's opal mine the next day - we have professional photos of this event.Interior of Lightning Ridge Hall. Visit by NSW Governor, Sir Phillip Game 1930
