The block of land, which is on the eastern side of the Walgett Court House, was sold to Walgett Branch Country Women’s Association by Department of Lands for ₤10 for the CWA building. The old building was built in August 1955 of timber and fibro cement with a corrugated iron roof. The CWA Badge on front of the building was painted on galvanised iron by a member of CWA. She burned off the galvanise before painting the logo. This was painted resting on top of the children’s school table. They were banned from using the table until the project was completed.
The building served as a meeting and function room for the CWA, a play centre, as a church meeting place, a pre-school and later as solicitor’s offices
